History: China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC), the state network information center of China, was founded on Jun. 3rd 1997 under the order of former Office of Informatization Leading Group of the State Council. Later was delegated as the .CN registry by former Ministry of Information Industry (MII), now the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

CNNIC follows the guidance of MIIT to conduct business, while the organization home is housed in the Computer Network Information Center of CAS, which has been running .CN since 1994. CNNIC’s mission is to be the constructor and operator of the information society of China.

CNNIC’s responsibilities include:

  2. IP Address and Autonomous System Number (AS Number) Allocation Service
  3. Catalogue Database Service (WHOIS)
  4. Technology R&D on Internet Addressing
  5. Internet Survey and Relevant Information Services
